Like the famous story of Lady Godiva, Mascagni's little known masterpiece, Isabeau, is forced to ride naked through the village. When the townspeople vowing the punishment of blindness to anyone looking upon her, arrest a young falconer, Princess Isabeau visits him in prison and they fall in love. But fate will intervene when an evil minister thwarts their innocent passions leaving only destruction and death in its wake.
